Language shapes reality, and Earth shapes language. To expand that vocabulary, here’s an environmental neologism, a code used alfresco – an Alfrescode – to give voice to a particular phenomenon. 



Portmanteau of the onomatopoeia ‘nom nom nom’ to mimic chewing, and the term ‘nombrilisme’, meaning ‘navel-gazing’: nomnom + nombrilisme

Excess focus upon what you or another is eating, to the total disregard of your surroundings or intelligent thought.

“So there we were, having a picnic on the beach – waves and whales cresting – and all he could talk about was the fish tacos. Talk about nomnomnombrilisme!”
